Meet the Artists
Galal Yousif
Galal was born in Ruffa in 1986. He moved to Karthoum in 2002 and graduated from Sudan University College of Arts in 2006. Galal was forcibly displaced from Sudan in June 2023 and currently lives in Nairobi, Kenya. His most recent series, The Forgotten Crisis and Blue Man, bear witness to the horrific ordeal of forced displacement of millions of Sudanese people and highlight the staggering humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan. His art seeks to capture the stories and cultural heritage of the Sudanese people. Galal draws inspiration from his childhood years in Sudan and his travels on the African continent.

Mohamed Fadol
Mohamed Fadol Mustafa Ahmed was born in Barbar, Sudan in 1968. With a Bachelor's degree in Fine and Applied Arts, specializing in painting, from the Sudan University of Science and Technology, he has achieved acclaim both locally and internationally. Mohamed has showcased his talent through exhibitions in Sudan and abroad, including solo exhibitions in prestigious venues like the National Corporation for Culture and Arts and international showcases in China. His art blends cultural influences with personal expression, exploring themes of identity, emotion, and humanity. With the onset of the war in Sudan in 2023, Mohamed moved to Egypt, where he currently resides. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Mohamed has contributed to academia, serving as a teacher and teaching assistant, underscoring his commitment to sharing his passion for art with others.

Mohamed Youssef Mahjoub Aboudi (Morda)
Morda was born in 1983 and raised in Omdurman. He left Sudan in July 2024 due to the war. He now lives in Juba, South Sudan. Morda is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Sudan University (2018) and of Estaz College of Arts at Juba University. Morda explores African identity and cultures through his art and reflects on African contributions to the formation of a global identity.
Mohammed Ahmed Ali (Ohaj)
Ohaj was born in Port Sudan in 1999. He moved to Khartoum in 2017 and graduated from the College of Fine Arts at Sudan University of Science and Technology. Ohaj is a visual artist who blends traditional elements with contemporary perspectives on Sudanese life. Ohaj was forcibly displaced from Khartoum in April 2023 and now lives in Port Sudan. His latest series focuses on lived experiences of war and their social and cultural impact on Sudanese people.

Mohammed Mustafa
Mohammed was born in April 2001 in Kassala State, Sudan, where he began his artistic journey at an early age. He later studied fine arts at Sudan University of Science and Technology. His university studies were interrupted due to the conflict that broke out in Sudan in April 2023, and Mohammed escaped Khartoum for Kassala. Despite these challenges, Mohammed continues to hone his artistic style, using innovative techniques such creating art with recycled fabrics and combining painting with photography. The conflict in Sudan has had a profound impact on Mohammed’s artwork, which he uses to express the pain and suffering of the Sudanese people as well as the hope for peace in his country.

Saleh Abdul Rahman (Salih Abdo)
Salih Abdo was born in 1987 in Khatoum Bahri. He graduated with a degree from the Sudan University of Science and Technology, College of Education Art Department in 2009. Salih Abdo uses watercolour technique and coffee-based watercolour to paint scenes of daily life in Sudan, paying tribute to its cultural heritage and efforts to support unity among communities and peace.
