Abstract
At the national level, poverty incidence in Chad increased by 2.5 percentage points between the most recent survey years, rising from 42.3 percent in 2018 to 44.8 percent in 2022. The country continues to experience significant gender gaps, the reduction of which is critical for the fight against poverty. Chad ranked 144th out of 146 countries on the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Global Gender Gap Index, which assesses gender gaps between women and men across various areas, including economic participation, education, health, and political empowerment. These gaps manifest in many forms in Chad. Significant discrimination exists against girls in access to education, particularly primary education. Gender-related inequalities also extend to access to tenure security, financial services, and knowledge. These disparities have profound consequences for household productivity, income diversification, and intergenerational economic mobility.
