New Joint AfDB-UNHCR Report Highlights Development Responses to Forced Displacement in Africa

A newly published joint study by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) presents recommendations for more sustainable investments in preventing and addressing forced displacement in Africa. It aims to inform all actors working on forced displacement in Africa, in particular Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), the broader donor community and governments, as well as private sector investors, in their efforts to mitigate the negative consequences of displacement and to convert its financial burden into opportunities for inclusive growth and prosperity. The joint study reflects a shared commitment to forge inclusive, development-oriented approaches to displacement. Highlighting good practices and showcasing the economic benefits of development strategies that include refugees and internally displaced persons, the report serves as a catalyst for action for development actors, governments, private sector, and other actors to advance policy reform, increase regional cooperation, financial commitments and new investments, drive and exemplify effective partnerships and coordination, and promote scalable solutions in forced displacement contexts across Africa.
