Design of New Regional AFD Program in Response to the Sudan Regional Refugee Crisis

The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) undertook scoping missions to Ethiopia, Kenya and South Sudan in October 2024 to inform the design of a new 8 million EUR regional project to support the resilience of communities affected by the Sudanese conflict by empowering women and girls. The project will be implemented in two countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, and/or Ethiopia.
AFD subsequently launched a call for proposals to finance a regional development project implemented by international NGOs and national or civil society organizations. All the activities carried out within the framework of the regional project should contribute to strengthening social cohesion.
This call for proposals is part of the #AvecElles initiative (“With Women”), aimed at protecting and empowering refugee women, jointly launched by France and UNHCR at the 2023 Global Refugee Forum. It also contributes to France's Action Plan on “Women, Peace and Security” (2021-2025) and delivers on France’s pledge at the Paris Conference on Sudan in April 2024. The call is open until the 19th of May 2025.
